Felsenweg trail at Stubnerkogel

Whether you visit in summer or winter, one of the most popular hiking highlights of Bad Gastein is the spectacular Felsenweg trail at Stubnerkogel mountain. The scenic trail along sheer rock walls and jagged rock formations starts only 400 meters south of the mountain station of Stubnerkogelbahn cable car. The circular trail leads to a modern viewing platform before looping back to the starting point along a short path.

The rock hiking trail at a glance

The Felsenweg trail covers a total distance of 100 meters – and every section is full of highlights. Walking along the metal grated floor connected to the rock face, you will feel as if you were “gliding” across the valley at lofty heights. For unlimited views of the surrounding landscape, the balustrade is made of see-through wire mesh.

The last 16 meters of the trail are particularly action-packed, requiring you to cross a short suspension bridge to reach the bright orange viewing platform. In summer, you can enjoy splendid views across the lush green valley from there. If you choose to walk the robust metal grate trail in winter, you’ll be treated to magical views of the snow-covered mountains. In any case, a walk along the rock trail is an unforgettable experience at any time of the year.
