Sportgastein ski area

Looking to reach great heights? Sportgastein, Ski Amadé’s highest ski area, fulfils this desire quite literally. The Goldbergbahn cable car and Kreuzkogel lift transport winter sports enthusiasts to higher altitudes with guaranteed snow until spring. Once arrived, you’ll find a total of 24 kilometers of ski runs stretch out on broad, perfectly groomed slopes. However, Sportgastein’s allure also extends beyond the slopes into the thrilling world of off-piste freeriding. Every year, freeriders from around the globe flock to this off-piste paradise, attracted by the promise of legendary snow conditions, abundant powder and pristine firn. The stunning mountain scenery of the Hohe Tauern National Park is the cherry on top of your ski day in Sportgastein and can also be admired on the Gipfelsieg ski tour.

Highlights near the Goldbergbahn mountain station

Another remarkable highlight is waiting for you just a short distance above the Goldbergbahn mountain station. At 2,686 meters, the Kreuzkogel summit cross presents a breathtaking vista. Here’s a tip for foodies: At the “Gipfelsieg und Gourmetfrühstück” event, a guide will accompany you to this exceptional vantage point. Already got that gourmet grin on your face? Sportgastein’s Photopoint, located at the Goldbergbahn mountain station, is ready to capture your most brilliant smile.

Sportgastein as a freeride eldorado

Situated at altitudes ranging from 1,590 to 2,650 meters above sea level, the Sportgastein ski area is the ultimate eldorado for freeriders. On site, you can revel in alpine freedom, carve through fresh powder or glide over pristine firn – all off-piste. Sportgastein offers ideal conditions for backcountry skiing, with three official freeride ski routes adjacent to the slopes. Its location in the Slackcountry ensures easy access to these routes. In addition, Sportgastein boasts a dedicated Freeride Info Base located directly at the Goldbergbahn mountain station. That’s where sports enthusiasts can access valuable safety tips, the daily avalanche report and route descriptions. To hone your skills in using an avalanche transceiver, the Avalanche Training Center (ATC) offers a practice field on the valley floor of Sportgastein.
