With short rock face sections and easy ridge sections, the Weitmoser via ferrata on Schlossalm makes for a varied route to the summit of Mauskarspitze. Despite its modest difficulty level (B/C), the climb is quite challenging – it leads along a scenic but very narrow ridge.
The approach to the via ferrata takes about 20 minutes and starts at the Schlossalm mountain station via trail no. 3. The Weitmoser route features stepped terrain. At the most challenging point in the middle section (C), you’ll have to master a short, steep slab. The route then continues to the summit of Mauskarspitze. The descent follows the hiking trail secured with steel cables down to the Schlossalm mountain station.
Our tip: The Weitmoser via ferrata can be combined with two other routes. It is conveniently located for tackling the Hochalmblick via ferrata first. And on the descent from the Weitmoser via ferrata, you can also take the fork to the Hirschinger via ferrata.

There are a variety of mountain huts serving regional delicacies on Schlossalm. How about a visit to Kleine Scharte, for instance? The charming mountain restaurant also boasts a spacious sundeck.
The right equipment is paramount for safe via ferrata tours. In addition to sturdy footwear, you need a climbing harness, a via ferrata set, and a climbing helmet. Don't have any climbing gear with you? Just rent your equipment at Intersport Fleiß or Angerer Ski- und Alpinschule!
