Curious to see the winter sports terrain without snow? The Leidenalmweg trail on Schlossalm leads you across the scenic slopes and ski runs of Skigastein. On a leisurely summer stroll, you will walk through blooming alpine meadows, look for wildlife amid the rock formations, and listen to the soothing murmur of the nearby mountain stream. Be prepared for magical moments in this tranquil incised valley!
You can begin your hike with a relaxed ascent in the comfortable Schlossalmbahn cable car, which takes you up to the mountain station. From there, you’ll follow the trail along the Kleine Scharte ski run, walking along the scenic Leidalmweg trail towards Brandner Hochalm. This hiking route meanders through fields of blooming alpine flowers, and you’ll find that even in the beautiful surroundings of Gastein’s summery landscape, there are slopes that beckon you to imagine downhill runs in winter. Whether it’s for a refreshing snack or a cool drink, a visit to the mountain hut is always a rewarding treat. The trail eventually guides you to the Schlossalmbahn middle station, from where you can take the cable car back down to the valley.
Get some exercise in, enjoy the fresh mountain air and treat yourself to regional specialties! A visit to one of Gastein’s charming mountain huts is the perfect complement to any hike. Along the Leidalmweg trail on Schlossalm, you have a variety of options to choose from – among them, Brandner Hochalm, Fundner Heimalm, or Maurachhütte. These rustic mountain huts offer a taste of authentic alpine cuisine along with a cozy spot for a break!
